Ambrosia Maple showcases a stunning contrast between its light heartwood (ranging from pale yellow to creamy brown) and the distinctive ambrosia figure—characterized by swirling patterns of dark brown, purple, and gray. The sapwood is typically a pale white to light tan, often featuring subtle red or pink hues. The beetle-induced tunnels create a unique ‘craze’ pattern that adds depth and visual intrigue, making each piece one-of-a-kind. The figure is most prominent in the heartwood, while the sapwood provides a clean, neutral background.
Ambrosia Maple machines well with standard woodworking tools, though the irregular grain and figure may cause slight tear-out in some areas. It glues effectively with standard woodworking adhesives and accepts stains well, though the ambrosia figure may require a clear coat to preserve the natural hues without darkening.
