Etimoe displays a beautiful range of colors from golden yellow to deep reddish-brown, with the heartwood typically deeper in hue. The sapwood is usually pale cream to light brown, creating a stark contrast when used in quartersawn lumber. The wood’s texture is fine to medium, with a smooth finish that highlights its natural beauty.
Etimoe machines well with both hand and machine tools, though it can occasionally cause some tear-out due to its interlocking grain. It glues and finishes exceptionally well, taking stains and finishes to a lustrous sheen. However, because of its density, it may dull cutting tools more quickly, so regular sharpening is recommended. Sanding requires care to avoid rough spots, but the end result is a smooth, beautiful surface.
